The artist has donated the complete sum of his £25k Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which operates to save the Britain's independent concert spaces.

The star was awarded the award on mid-October as his new release his work was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

He has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the essential function small stages fulfilled in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the performances I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.

Recently, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a modest fee to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also participated, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds assisted locations that were facing possible closure due to issues caused by flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations received funding support in improving infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.

"The idea that funds from shows in big venues supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just common sense," the star has commented.

He is far from the only musician to contribute his award prize money to charitable organizations.

In Pulp received the trophy in the mid-90s for their record the album, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would contribute their winnings to the non-profit War Child.

During 2002, artist the artist divided her bounty across multiple good causes, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I contributed a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with a publication.

In recent years, they donated their funds to the local youth club that developed their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Also winners that year M People contributed their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"Receiving the award was ample," remarked vocalist Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our winning touched another person's life."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had saved two grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in Southampton and the second in that location were acquired under the community ownership initiative, which is supported by a national body and music fans who acquire "ownership units" in the venues.
