Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
